For a Start

The Internet-of-Things will be influencing our daily life more than most things we have experienced in the past 50 years. We learned to get used to cell phones and to computers and that they are connected to internet. We started to look into websites, where other people left information for us. 7 billionen devices are now active in the internet, most of them computers and mobile devices. But now we start to connect the rest of the real world with the internet. Serious forecasts say, in 2020 it will be 50 billion devices. Since the amount of cell phones and computers one person reasonably can use is limited, most of these devices are connected to things.

What will that be? A few obvious and not too obvious examples:

  • The alarm system of your house or apartment will tell you by notification, whether somebody entered your place, opened a door or window. A camera will give you a life view or a motion triggered video clip from inside your place.
  • Electrical appliances connected to a power outlet can be switched on and off from your smart phone, regardless where you are.
  • Threats to your place like smoke, heat, gas leaks, electrical power failing or flooding are detected automatically and will notify you, so you can take actions.
  • Your energy and water use is monitored and you will be notified if you can save some of it.
  • A weather station on your roof is continously measuring and evaluating the weather data and gives you local forcast and warning.
  • Your door lock doesn’t need a key anymore, your smart phone is the key.

This website will collect and provide all kind of information about products and technologies for the Internet-of-Things. If you want to know more or you have questions, do not hesitate to use the comment functions.
